What now? (continued)

Thanks to David Iversen at WTVA, here are the bullet points from the Board meeting concerning ordinances regarding the sale of beer and light wine:

  • Beer can be sold cold – Passed 4-1
  • Restaurants must have kitchen facilities and make at least 50% of total revenue from food sales. The restaurant must have a minimum of 40 seats and the kitchen must remain open while beer is sold – Passed 5-0
  • Beer and light wine can be sold from 1:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday – Passed 3-2
  • Beer can be sold on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. - Passed 3-2
  • No beer can be sold in drive through windows or “beer barns” – Passed 5-0
  • There will be no advertising of beer outside of the interior. No advertising or beer can be visible from the doorway – Passed 5-0
  • Any establishment selling beer or light wine must be 250 feet from a church or school. This is measured from the edge of premises lines – Passed 3-2
  • The sale of single beers is lawful. They cannot, however, be sold in iced down tubs – Passed 4-1
  • Beer and light wine cannot be open on public property. There is an exception for special city sponsored events. There is a legal distinction between open and empty containers - Passed 4-1
  • Clerk must put beer or light wine in an opaque bag before giving it to customer – Passed 5-0
  • In case of emergency or riot, the mayor has the right to discontinue sale of beer and light wine - Passed 5-0

Skate Park

I noticed that the expansion plans for the sportsplex do not include a skate park. More and more places in town are becoming “no skate” zones. What do we need to do to get a skate park added? I know several others in neighboring communities have been added, and I would rather let my child skate here, than go to Oxford or Tupelo.

Thanks,

If you’re a New Albany parent, chances are you’ve heard about the Sportsplex future expansion efforts. Allow us to “expand” on what you’ve heard with a few photos of the proposed structure. We’ll try to update this post with the specifics on just what will be included but, for now, on to the pretty pictures (3 in all; view controls below photo) . . .

What Now?

For better or worse, it’s now up to our Board of Aldermen to make the appropriate guidelines for sale and distribution of beer and light wine.  So, just what are the intended methods to sell . . . or, what do you think? When, where and how should this be implemented? Your thoughts, please . . .

Welcome back, hot topic!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, everyone! It’s pretty interesting to watch the statistics on this page start rising despite the extreme lack of posts over the past year (our apologies, of course!). We can only imagine it’s a certain upcoming event at the polls that’s sparking the interest . . .

So, we’ve decided to do something . . . well, right in line with where we started. We’re opening discussions to any and all persons who would like to discuss the topic of the upcoming alcohol vote this January.

So, “set ‘em up” below and, as always, be courteous to your neighbor. After all, we will still be living in this great community after the dust settles. Please take note of our posting policies. Be honest, respectful, and well written retorts are always welcome! For those who have been checking in periodically, thanks for hanging around – now get to talking.

Here’s another poll for your viewing pleasure . . .
